Costa Rica Border Law
I found an article this morning on Costa Rica’s new border enforcement law designed to prevent illegal immigrants - mainly Nicaraguans - from entering or staying in the country. (Click here to open the article.) I understand the desire to control the border - obviously the U.S. is debating the very same issue presently - but this story illustrates the general intolerance of Ticos towards Nicaraguans. Don’t confuse what I’m saying - Costa Rica has every right to enforce its own borders. It just saddens me that so many Ticos look down on Nicaraguans and unfairly blame them for real and perceived problems in their country.
One part of the ministry that we are looking forward to - perhaps more than any other part aspect of it - is working with Ticos to serve impoverished Nicaraguans in need of medical care. Our goal is to break down the barriers of discrimination, bigotry, and hatred between Ticos and Nicaraguans through demonstrating the powerful, healing love of Christ.
By the way, I have not heard from Amber in Nicaragua yet, but as most Seacoast mission trips go, no news is good news. Thank you for your continued prayers for Amber and the mission team. They will be working in medical clinics all next week in the poorest areas of Nicaragua. I’ll be sure to report back the amazing things God does through the team. Be blessed.
