"GO Teams" - Short-Term Missions
What is a GO Team? The name says it all. It’s a team of individuals who sacrifice vacation time to serve (many times in very non-vacation-friendly environments), united under a common cause to GO and reach the world for Christ. It’s that simple. Short-term mission trips are a wonderful way to grow in your personal walk with the Lord - while serving people living in difficult situations (whether in the inner city or in remote mountain regions) - and growing the Kingdom of God! If GO Teams sound exciting to you, we need to talk! If you are interested in coming to Costa Rica on a short-term mission trip - and you believe God is calling you to help the Ticos in the areas of medical care, building projects, children’s ministry, or evangelism - please contact us. There are numerous opportunities to serve and to share God’s love.
Amber and I coordinate with church missions directors and leaders for specific short-term teams to bring groups to the camp, El Jardin, in Orosi, Costa Rica. El Jardin serves as the launching pad for the ministries mentioned above.
Currently, we especially need medical mission teams and construction teams. On the construction side, we need teams to help complete a building on the grounds at El Jardin. This building, when finished, will serve as the chapel, meeting center, and dining hall for the camp. This is a huge need for El Jardin because it will allow us to bring in even more church groups and short-term missions teams. We want to be able to minister to as many people as we can - this project is crucial in that regard.
On the medical side, we need teams to help us launch a traveling medical clinic to serve the Orosi community as well as other cities and towns in and around the Orosi Valley. Medical missions teams serve under the direction of our resident Tico doctor, Dr. Wilson, and Amber (who serves as the facilitator/coordinator in addition to helping as a nurse). While we especially need doctors, physician’s assistants, nurses, and others in the medical field, medical degrees are not prerequisites for serving in medical missions. We always need “heavy lifters” and other helpers to run clinics and be involved in other areas of ministry.
The model we follow for the medical clinic was originally designed by Madeleine Allard at Medical Mission International (although she would tell you that it’s not her model - it’s God’s). The model involves holistic patient care. Our mission is to bring not only physical wellness to patients, but spiritual healing as well. In order to accomplish this, we partner with local Costa Rican churches and mission groups to work alongside the medical teams to minister to the Ticos spiritually.
If you would like more information about short-term missions opportunities in Costa Rica, please contact us directly. We look forward to working alongside you in ministry, serving the Ticos and fulfilling the Great Commission!
