A Good and Bad Day: Dentist Appointments + Basketball
Yesterday was a crazy day — for good and bad reasons.
I’ll start with the good. Amber and I had dentist appointments yesterday.
That’s the good part?
Listen to this story.
I had just finished having my teeth cleaned. The dentist, Dr. Kevin Lawing, our family dentist here in Charlotte for over 20 years now, said, “Nathan, I can fix your chipped teeth. And make a bite guard for you too.” (It seems that years of roughhousing and teeth grinding have taken their toll.)
“I wouldn’t charge you anything. It would be [the office's] way of supporting what you’re doing [in missions]. Why don’t you come back this afternoon at 2 o’clock? I have an opening in my schedule then.”
Huh? Free dental work?
When Amber came out of the room after her teeth cleaning she said, “Nathan, you are coming back here this afternoon. There’s no discussion.”
My dental hygienist also encouraged me to take the offer. It seems that Dr. Lawing was offering about $1,000 in free dental work.
Obviously, I couldn’t turn that down! So, I went back at two and got my chipped teeth fixed and had my bite guard made. What an unexpected blessing.
Amber and I want to thank Dr. Lawing, our missions minded dentist, and his wonderful staff.
Now the bad part: basketball.
I got to see my Tar Heels play Davidson College last night with Amber and our great friends Bradd and Corinne. Carolina escaped with a hard fought 72-68 win.
Why is that bad?
The game wasn’t bad at all. It was a lot of fun.
However, as I was filing out of my seat when the buzzer sounded, I decided it would be faster to climb over the row in front of me rather than wait for the people in my row to exit.
Dumb.
As I stepped over the seat in front of me, I underestimated the drop to the next aisle. I practically jumped down to the next row (unintentionally) and planted awkwardly on my right foot.
Pop!
I felt (and heard) my knee pop. A rush of blood went to my head as a wave of pain shot through my body.
It was bad.
Amazingly, I was able to walk to the car (even after circling a few blocks in Downtown Charlotte). But today I’m laying around the house, wallowing in self-pity. To be honest, I’m kind of in disbelief right now. Did I blow another ligament? I’m praying that I didn’t. Or if I did, I’m praying for God to heal me.
I can’t take a sixth knee surgery.
So, I’m asking you to please pray for healing.
Pray for a real life miracle.
I’ll be praying for the same. And we can believe together for God to intervene.
What a praise report it would be if my bum knee turns out to be alright!
“Through faith in the name of Jesus, this man was healed—and you know how crippled he was before. Faith in Jesus’ name has healed him before your very eyes.” Acts 3:16
