Managua Mentioned in “Death by Suburbia” Message?

Apr 7th, 2008 by Nathan | 3

It seems odd that Managua, Nicaragua would pop up in a sermon about the dangers of American, suburban culture, but wouldn’t you know it did last weekend. In a message at The Villlage Church (one of my favorite weekly podcasts), guest speaker Barry Keldie describes an experience he had on a mission trip to Managua with his church. He describes some seemingly unbelievable circumstances in an area of Managua called “La Chureca“…the city dump…and home to over 15,000 people. There are some powerful images of poverty in this convicting message on “plastic paradise.”

Take a listen.

(Thanks to Rheagan for emailing me about this sermon!)

I listened to this sermon!! It was so good! What a coincidence! And Matt Chandler has quickly become one of my favorite to listen to!

Awesome! We went to Dallas last December and I was really excited about visiting The Village…but we weren’t there over a weekend (we had to leave Saturday morning because of ice storms). I was so bummed. Yeah, Chandler is phenomenal. I just listened to the latest message last night. Once again, just like every week, a home run.

Aww! It’s always sad to go to a city with an awesome church and not get to a service! Every week IS amazing! It’s unbelievable how he does it. And his Luke series is the first series that I’ve really enjoyed from anyone, when it lasts for that long! I can’t wait to see yall!
