“Naked Conversations” Blogging Tips - Part II
In an earlier post I shared that I will be working on two new blogs for Christ for the City International (I’ll actually be installing them this weekend). I’m thinking out loud about what makes a good ministry blog. So before I retire for the night to supper, a movie, and a bag of popcorn with my wife, here are a few more helpful hints from the book “Naked Conversations: How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers” by Robert Scroble and Shel Israel. Again, these suggestions are for business blogs, but I think they’re entirely applicable to churches and ministries:
- Five Blogging Success Tips:
1. Talk, don’t sell.
2. Post often and be interesting.
3. Write on issues you know and care about. [This should be easy for a blogger focused on a mission he or she is passionate about!]
4. Blogging saves money but costs time. Being a good blogger takes time. You need to join the conversation by reading other blogs, linking to them, and putting comments on them. You need to research what you write about, and check and recheck your facts. This takes time, and the people we spoke to who quit blogging all cited time as the major reason they stopped.
5. You get smarter by listening to what people tell you. “My readers are collectively smarter than me.”
Amen to tip #5! How about you? What are your tips for a guy or gal about to start up a new blog for a church or ministry?
