Nicaraguan Politicking

The United States isn’t the only country in the middle of campaign season — Nicaragua goes to the polls this November too.
It’s not a presidential election year, but alcalde elections are taking place across the country. “Alcalde” is Spanish for mayor, but this position is actually more like mayor, governor, and future presidential candidate (at least for the Managua alcalde) rolled into one. It’s important. And Nicaraguans are just as passionate about politics as Obamacans and McCainiacs.
