Happy New Year!

Jan 1st, 2008 by Nathan | 0

I’m horrible about keeping my New Year’s resolutions, so this year I’m to set some goals for 2008. Something about goals seems more inspiring, attainable, and practical than resolutions. So, here are my goals for this year:

Return to Nicaragua by March to begin our next adventure in ministry! (To meet this goal [...]

On the Couch, Preparing to Rejoin the Crash

Dec 6th, 2007 by Amber and Nathan | 2

Amber and I have had a wonderful time this week “on the couch.”  No, we’re not in counseling.  Per se.  We’re in a “Debrief and Reentry” program for missionaries at the Center for Intercultural Training (CIT) in Rutherfordton, NC.  (I’ll get to the rejoining the crash part in a minute.)
We’ve had some wonderful discussions this week [...]

Farewell, Costa Rica

Nov 6th, 2007 by Nathan | 0

We’ve been on the road for the last couple of days, so I’ve been unable to write. Our big move – the next leg in our adventure in missions – began on Sunday. We left our beloved home, Orosi, and set out for Nicaragua (where we are now, visiting with the directors of the mission [...]

Missionaries as “Tour Guides” in “Velvet Elvis”

Aug 31st, 2007 by Nathan | 4

I just finished reading a great book called Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell.  It’s an easy read, but challenging at the same time.  The author encourages his readers to “wrestle” with the book.  “Don’t swallow it uncritically.”  I tried to do that, but I found myself agreeing with almost everything he writes!
One section of the [...]

Blink Decisions

Aug 10th, 2007 by Nathan | 0

With my wife out of town for a week or two, I have some time to kill.  My plan is to read as many books as possible.  I’m starting with one called Blink.  It’s written by Malcolm Gladwell, author of one of my favorite books, The Tipping Point.  If you haven’t read that one yet, you should.
I’ve [...]

Sermon Wrap-Up

Aug 7th, 2007 by Nathan | 1

I just want to thank the readers of this blog for your prayers leading up to Sunday’s sermon.  It went really, really well.  I’m a self-critical guy — even I was happy with how the message went.  My hope now is that the people in attendance on Sunday morning will embrace God’s burden for our community [...]
