Preparation

Preparation for the Trip

  • Seek a devotional book that will help you to prepare for this mission. I recommend Mac & Leeann’s Guide to Short-Term Missions, but there are many great resources out there.
  • Make sure your passport is still valid.
  • Attend all preparation meetings. In these meetings your team leader will relate very important information.
  • Trips are physically demanding. If you are used to an inactive lifestyle, start exercising a little to improve your stamina.
  • Buy traveling health insurance for the time you will be out of the country.
  • Make sure that your tetanus immunization is up to date. We strongly recommend that each participant get Typhoid and Hepatitis A immunizations. If you’ve never had a Hepatitis A immunization, you will need to start the series as soon as possible. Consult your public health department.
  • Medical personnel: please make sure you have your Hepatitis B up-to-date.
  • Hand washing remains the best way to prevent diarrhea and intestinal infection. You might want to bring an antibacterial gel or antimicrobial hand wipes such as Purel. Water - at times - is a luxury.
  • We will buy or filter the wather that you need for consumption and to brush your teeth. However, you might want to bring your own filter bottle. This is sold in most camping supply stores.
