Winning Teams
Greg Surratt, the senior pastor of our home church in South Carolina, Seacoast Church, gave one of my all-time favorite sermons on “Winning Teams.” First, he opens with a lengthy story about my beloved North Carolina Tar Heels. Of course I’m going to like that message! But he also uses great analogies and references from the “Unity in the Body of Christ” passage in Ephesians 4:1-16. And this lesson speaks perfectly to “winning teams” in the mission field. If you’re leading an STM (short-term mission), I highly recommend watching or listening to this message (my sermon notes).
Greg uses an acronym in his message: A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E. I’ve been a part of a lot of different teams and I can definitively say that attitude is THE key component of a successful team. Another way of putting it is “flexibility while serving.” Everyone on the team must be…
- A - Appreciative of their place on the team
- T - Thoughtful of their conduct to one another
- T - Tenacious about preserving unity
- I - Intentional about discovering their individual roles
- T - Teachable in relation to their leaders
- U - Unselfish in their approach to team goals
- D - Disciplined in the face of adversity
- E - Effective in their ministry (growing by doing)
If you have the right A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E, and you feel the Lord tugging you out of your comfort zone, it’s time to sign up for an STM!
