One-Time Gifts

Before returning to the mission field, we are trusting God to provide funds to cover “up-front costs” such as furniture, appliances, and a vehicle. We would be honored and blessed if you would consider a one-time gift covering all or a portion of one of the items listed below.

You can specify how you’d like your donation to be used. For example, if you would like to provide for the battery system used to power the house when the electricity goes out (which occurs daily for five hours), you can give the $250 necessary to buy a battery, charger, and inverter at Lowe’s. There are several other items to choose from as well. (Of course we’re not expecting an $8,000 gift to pay for an automobile, but smaller gifts specified “Automobile” will help us reach the overall goal.)

Here are the items to choose from for your one-time gift:

  • $8,000 - Automobile - Public transportation isn’t great in Nicaragua. Nor are the roads. We need a reliable used truck or SUV to navigate the streets of Managua and the dirt roads of the countryside.
  • $500 - Living Room - This would pay for a sofa and chairs, tables, and lamps.
  • $500 - Kitchen - We hope to find a kitchen table and chairs, a microwave, and a toaster for under $500.
  • $500 - Refrigerator - It’s not home without a fridge…
  • $400 - Oven - …or an oven to bake fresh cookies in!
  • $350 - Washer - Nicaragua is hot. We’ll be sweating a lot (especially Nathan) — probably going through a couple of shirts a day. While a dryer isn’t a necessity, a washer definitely is.
  • $350 - Bed - This is the one item we won’t scrimp on. A nice, comfortable bed does more for your mental health and sanity (particularly on the mission field) than anything else I can think of.
  • $250 - Battery System - Nicaragua has rolling blackouts everyday (and you thought we had an energy crisis in America!). The electricity is turned off for five hours every afternoon or evening. We need to buy a “battery system” to provide power to the house so we’re not in the dark every evening. The system includes a car battery, a battery charger, and a power inverter. Power generators can cost well over $500, not to mention the cost of the gasoline to use them. At $250, and virtually no upkeep costs, the battery system is a steal.
  • $150 - Contingency - You never know what unexpected expenses will come up in moving…especially to Nicaragua! We hope to be under budget on some of the bigger expenses, but just in case we’re budgeting $150 in emergency/contingency funds.
  • $5,000 - Adoption Process - We’ve felt God speaking to our hearts about adopting a child since we got married. Now we’re finally ready to start the process. We’re a little overwhelmed by the cost, the forms, requirements and government red tape. But we’re so excited about bringing home a Nicaraguan baby! This cost is not something we need as a prereq for going to Nicaragua. But it is a process we’d like to begin while we’re here in the U.S. Five thousand dollars should cover the entire adoption process. If you would like to contribute to the expenses for adopting a little Nicaraguan boy or girl, we would be eternally grateful.
